Flemington House, Travancore book release
For the first time a book on Flemington House, Travancore mansion is to be released in May.
Flemington House was built in 1856-1862 for Hugh Glass, a squatter who spared no expense in creating one of the finest estates in Melbourne at that time. The mansion built in the Italianate style comprised over 30 rooms and a 100-foot tower over the main entrance. The grounds were lavishly planted with rare, imported trees and shrubs from all over the world.
Its next owner, Henry Madden adopted the name “Travancore”. The house became a school in 1932 only to be demolished ten years later.
The author, Alex Bragiola explores the mansion and lives of the Glass and Madden families and has included many photographs never before published. The book features 112 pages and 119 photographs.
The book can be purchased on the EHS Online Shop. Initial price is $35 with free delivery for Moonee Valley and Kensington.
